Gullah Book of the Dead
11/22/2014 - 01/25/2015
Our trip on October 24, 2014 was very interesting. First, we met at a gravestone making place. The woman working there was very informative and told us about where the stones came from and the different types that they have. Although, I didn't get any pictures at that place it was an amazing experience.
Next, we went to the graveyard. I noticed that the cemetery included a lot of new stones as well as very old stones. There were also many stones that weren't marked or the inscriptions were very hard to read. I took pictures of that because I think its very sad to see an unmarked gravestone since the gravestone is what is supposed to symbolize someone's life. Also, they were stones that were sinking into the ground. I'm pretty sure that its due to the cemetery being in the low country.
All together, I really enjoyed myself on the trip and it would be great to find out more about the people that are buried in them. I would also like to look into the unmarked graves.

Gullah Book of the Dead

Today was very interesting. I learned about how granite was made. I also saw how they create letters and pictures on gravestones. I never knew how they put pictures and stuff on the stones. I also like some of the details they put on the stones. It was very amazing.
When we went to the cemetery, I saw a lot of people that died this year, 2014. There were a lot of detailed designs on the gravestones that really stood out for me. One stone had lots of color and detail that I liked the best.
During lunch, I learned that olive oil may be better than buttery spreads. We used it for dipping a bread called Challah. It is a Jewish bread made out of eggs and some other stuff.
Later at the library, I also learned about microfilm, an old school thing!
