Imani Muhammad

I'm a junior at West Ashley High School in Charleston, SC. The purpose of this project was to go to different cemetaries in my area and photograph them.

It's important to me that those who have passed aren't forgotten. In the multiple grave sites that I went to, there were many that were unmarked. They either had a block of cement covering the area or just a small marker.

As a whole, this project has taught me more about my city and it's history. In the pictures in the slide show there is one grave that says "Robert Deas". I learned that he worked for the Witte family for 40 years and that the Witte family were German immigrants. More imformation about Deas and the Witte family is available in the exhibit at 1600 Meeting Street.
